The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has taken out the title of Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre in the World Travel Awards for the fifth consecutive year.
Thousands of industry travel professionals voted in the awards announced at the World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia ceremony in India in October.
The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre won the award over a number of other regional venues.
Meanwhile, the Centre has also been named as a finalist for two Exhibition and Events Association of Australasia Awards (EEAA) for Best Green Initiative and Best Venue Team - Exhibitions, to be announced in December.
Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said he was extremely proud of the venue’s achievements.
“We have a world-class venue and a fantastic team who deliver an exceptional service to our clients, so it is wonderful to see this recognised within the travel and tourism industry,” Mr van Amerongen said.
Sydney is Australia’s leading city for business events, with the latest International Congress and Convention Association figures ranking it the highest in Australia.
The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has a wide range of international events on its schedule during 2010-11, including the recent 12,000-delegate Lions International Convention and the 3500-delegate Air New Zealand Golden Oldies Rugby Festival.
