The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has reinforced its position as Australia’s leading events facility after being named the country’s best venue in the 2010 Australian Event Awards.
The Centre was awarded the Spice Magazine Best Venue Award at a packed industry event held last night (October 7, 2010) at the Aquatic Centre at Sydney Olympic Park.
Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said the award was a great honour at a time when the Centre was operating to a busy schedule of large-scale international events.
“We recently hosted more than 12,000 delegates at the 93rd International Lions Convention and thousands more at a succession of high-profile medical and scientific congresses, so it’s rewarding to have our hard work acknowledged,” Mr van Amerongen said.
“An award like this recognises not only an excellent venue in a magnificent city, but also the high level of expertise available in the Centre’s team for staging spectacular, well-managed events.”
The Centre recently unveiled a sophisticated new interior design in its Convention Centre Parkside as part of a wider program of enhancements to its facilities and technological services.
It will next week host thousands of people at Australia’s largest public exhibition, the Australian Motor Show, while last week it welcomed some of the greats of international rugby at a gala dinner for the Golden Oldies Rugby Union Festival.
