The purpose-built Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre - photo), Malaysia’s premier convention centre, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s federal capital, has enjoyed high occupancy levels as the venue of choice for 2,960 events with over 8.3 million delegates and visitors since its official opening in June 2005.
This in turn, has contributed approximately RM2.4 billion (approx. USD0.7 billion, approx EUR 0.57 billion) in economic impact to Kuala Lumpur city and Malaysia.
The five-year celebration marks a positive beginning as the Centre is being recognised as the first convention centre in Malaysia to be awarded the ISO 14001:2004, in February 2010, by SIRIM QAS International, Malaysia's leading certification, inspection and testing body.
ISO 14001 is a tool which provides assurance to management that it is in control of the organisational processes and activities that have an impact on the environment.
Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre General Manager Datuk Peter Brokenshire said: “The ISO 14001 certification marks another milestone for the Centre as a venue that operates in a responsible manner.”
The fifth year anniversary has had a good start with 44 conventions and 57 exhibitions already confirmed on its 2010 event calendar.
To maintain the momentum and further strengthen its position as a preferred venue, the Centre has launched PlenaryOnCall, its latest offering comprising six packages on a per seat basis for a minimum of 150 persons.
Applicable to its 500-seat Plenary Theatre, PlenaryOnCall presents clients with flexible solutions for their venue needs, in line with the Centre’s ‘We Have A Deal For You’ (WHAD) which was launched in 2009.
Investment in infrastructure is also part of the fifth year anniversary plan to enhance the guest experience. The Centre has upgraded its state-of-the-art audiovisual (AV) equipment, with the latest investments in data projection. Complimentary internet services are also now available on three levels of the Centre to enhance delegates’ experience.
As 2010 progresses, the Centre will continually develop innovative product offerings to bolster the Centre’s achievement for the future.
The Centre’s success is also attributed to its central location complete with world-class infrastructure. It will be more appealing with the upcoming Grand Hyatt Hotel with its 1,030 rooms and Impiana KLCC Hotel Phase 2 expansion project which includes adding 180 rooms to the existing 1,641 units.
An overhead bridge linking Impiana Hotel directly to the Centre is also under construction to further provide convenience and easy access to the Centre.
Brokenshire said: “It is an exciting time for us to celebrate our fifth year anniversary and we are confident with the investments made in the Centre, the precint and the value-add packages and venue solutions will further strengthen us as a business tourism destination in the region.
Brokenshire also attributed the Centre’s success to the team’s hard work, and passion to not only meet but exceed our clients and guests expectations. A ‘can do’ spirit and by continually challenging ourselves in both creativity and flexibility have been major factors for the Centre in maintaining its position in this highly competitive industry.
