KölnKongress Expects A Good 2010

Koeln-CongressIn the light of the current booking situation, KölnKongress, Cologne’s largest supplier of event locations, once again expects a good year.

The highlights in 2010 will include the annual conference of the German Civil Service Trade Union which was held at the beginning of the year, the FDP Federal Party Conference, the International Travel Catering Association’s annual congress, the Einstieg Abi (the school-leavers’ congress), the Radio Day 2010, the FVW Congress, which is regarded as the leading event in the tourism industry, the Karl-Häupl Congress, the BVE “Unternehmertag Lebensmittel”, the DGQ Conference 2010, the 29th  ISTA Congress Cologne, and the neuroRAD Annual Conference of the DGNR 2010.

In addition, a trend can continue to be seen towards so-called “congress fairs” (such as, for example, the WOWEX, the Conlife 2010 and the Elektro: Mobilia 2010), the organization of which KölnKongress handles for Koelnmesse. This trend underlines the importance of congresses as an important vehicle for theme contents.

Congresses, conferences and events make a significant contribution to the economic effects of the region. According to the ifo study in 2008, the direct and indirect production effects of KölnKongress GmbH lead to a nationwide sales volume of about 386 million Euros annually, of this total, approx. 273 million Euros are accounted for by Cologne alone.

That means that € 1 of sales revenue for KölnKongress leads to expenditure of € 22.95 in Cologne. As a result of this expenditure, the City of Cologne raises 2.8 million Euros in the form of direct taxes.

As of 1st January 2010, KölnKongress has established the new area of Marketing, Sales & Communication. As of now, the management of this area is being handled by Ms Franca Wenzl, previously responsible for the object management of the Gürzenich Köln.

Through the active marketing of the KölnKongress locations, it is intended to optimize and increase the utilization of the objects. A more efficient cross-selling, active acquisition of new customers and the central management of the sales and marketing activities for all objects will be at the focus of the new department’s attention.

The previous activities, such as (trade) fair participations, and the active membership of different associations is planned to be steadily improved and optimized.

In the course of an organizational reorientation of KölnKongress GmbH, the KölnKongress objects will in future be divided into two (previously three) areas:

The area of responsibility of Mr Ralf Nüsser, Manager of the Congress-Centrum Koelnmesse and the Rheinparkhallen Cologne, will be extended as of 1st April 2010, to include the Gürzenich Köln and the Bastei. He will be supported at the Gürzenich Köln by Mr Thomas Leder, who will be responsible as the contact person on the spot and for the operative management.

Mr Ralf Becker will continue to be responsible for the operation of the Tanzbrunnen, the Rheinterrassen and the special event locations like the ZooLocation, the Zeughaus and the Cologne Beach Club.

The existing contract covering the marketing of the Rheinparkhallen Köln with Stadt Köln (the City of Cologne) is planned to be extended up to the year 2014.

KölnKongress Managing Director Bernhard Conin welcomes this decision “Because Cologne continues to need a hall of this size and this decision means planning security for our customers for the next few years”.

With its capacity and its special architectural charm, the Staatenhaus am Rheinpark built in the 1920s, which is a listed historic building, perfectly extends the diverse nature of the objects managed by KölnKongress.

With 18,400 sq.m. of usable space and a total capacity for up to 12,000 persons, the Rheinparkhallen Köln are particularly suitable for annual general meetings, product presentations, exchanges, congresses with and without supporting trade exhibitions, as well as for social or company events.
