Celebrating at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards last Friday night, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (CCEC) was announced the winner of the Meetings and Business Tourism category.
Achieving national recognition is a major coup for the venue, which was awarded the Meetings and Business Tourism category at the Queensland Tourism Awards last November.
Finalists from every state and territory competed on a national scale in 27 categories at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, held at the prestigious Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perth.
GCCEC General Manager Adrienne Readings said the award has reaffirmed the Gold Coast as a business destination favourite, a market which is catered for by the leading-edge convention facilities of the Centre.
“The appeal of the Gold Coast as a holiday mecca proves to be just as popular for the business tourism sector,” she said.
“The GCCEC’s purpose-design and capacity to cater for conferences of up to 6,000 delegates, complemented by award-winning service and a prime leisure destination explains why the venue is the most attended regional convention centre in Australia.”
More than 1.327 million people have attended an event at the GCCEC since it opened its doors in 2004. The Centre continues to host a mix of leisure and business tourism events attracting thousands of local, interstate and international visitors each year.
Presented by the National Tourism Alliance (NTA) and Tourism Council Western Australia (TCWA) and sponsored by Qantas Airways, Tourism Australia and Tourism Western Australia, the 26th Australian Tourism Awards are the industry’s biggest and most prestigious event of the year.
