The over 50 children and staff members at the SOS Children’s Village were awakened to the sounds of hammers and scent of paint when Glamour Destination Management and US-based Nuvox/Windstream group visited them recently.
Located in the community of Barrett Town, St. James, the SOS Children’s Village, a privately-run organisation for orphaned and abandoned children, received a face-lift courtesy of the Nuvox/Windstream group which recently visited Jamaica.
The group, which stayed at the luxurious Half Moon resort, took advantage of Glamour DMC’s community outreach initiative Partnership with a Mission.
Members of the group spent an entire day painting and renovating the buildings, planting fruit trees and installing basketball hoops.
According to Susan Hite, director of creative services at Windstream, “Windstream employees were so proud and excited to volunteer at the SOS Children's Village."
"We had a great experience working with Glamour DMC in coordinating this event. Giving back is a key part of our culture at Windstream. But what we got in return was worth so much more. Our entire team felt wonderful about the experience."
Partnership with a Mission encourages interested groups and individuals to join the Glamour DMC team in giving back to local communities whether through donating time, kind or cash to local programmes.
“For years Glamour DMC has been facilitating these initiatives and we’ve partnered with several groups and individuals who’ve visited Jamaica and wanted to give back to the community,” said Rachel Anderson, the company’s director with responsibility for business expansion.
Glamour DMC currently partners with local entities such as schools and churches by assisting with excursions and offering mentorship programmes as well as donating clothing and raising funds for the West Haven Children’s Home, located in Hanover, through a partnership with Definitive Caribbean, a UK-based company.
Glamour DMC also facilitates the donation of food, books, wheelchairs and houses through Food for the Poor.
