Dragonfly Africa yesterday announced that it had acquired 100% of Cape Town based Green Route.
Dragonfly Africa, with a Johannesburg Head Office, is considered one of Southern Africa's leading Destination Management and Inbound Travel Companies, operating in the North American, Australia/New Zealand and Russian markets.
Dragonfly has been involved in a wide range of services across a broad spectrum of tourism for over 30 years. Green Route offers an impressive track record and is regarded as a market leader in many European markets, particularly the United Kingdom.
Glen Byrom, founder of Green Route, commented as follows: "It is time I retired from the day to day business of Green Route, which I founded some 20 years ago, and leave the future to the new generation."
"I am delighted to hand over to Dragonfly Africa, for whom I have the greatest respect, and to my daughter Kerry Raffray, who will continue to head up the team at Green Route. I will however, remain available for consultation and ad-hoc projects."
Founder and Executive Chairman Rupert Jeffries of Dragonfly Africa commented "Green Route is a very well established and highly respected Destination Management Company with a significant success record in some key inbound tourism markets with a very loyal client following."
"We believe that Green Route's skills and experience in these territories will blend well with those of Dragonfly Africa - to present a dynamic and highly creative force to the benefit of clients, staff, and our overseas sales offices. The acquisition will also give the Group a strong Cape Town base and presence. "
All staff will be retained and whilst both companies will move forward with their separate brand identities, the merging of the companies under single management presents many exciting opportunities for 2010 - post the Soccer World Cup Tournament in South Africa.
The joining of the two companies will see greatly increased influence in the Southern African Tourism market place, and will provide increased buying power on behalf of our clients.
Green Route Managing Director, Kerry Raffray, will join the Management team at Dragonfly Africa, and commented "We are very excited about this development, and we are all looking forward to the integration of two of Southern Africa's most successful Destination Management Companies."
Green Route's David Dodgeon, will continue the UK sales and marketing role, in a combined effort with Paul Evans, who was recently appointed to look after the Dragonfly Africa UK portfolio.
