Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has today announced that Molly Doheny, the organisation’s Head of Convention Bureau, is to take up the option of the early retirement package, offered by Glasgow City Council to qualifying employees.
Molly will leave GCMB at the end of September this year and a search for her replacement is now underway.
Once appointed, Molly will work closely with her successor during the handover period to ensure a seamless transition for what is a key role within GCMB.
Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of GCMB said: “Molly has made a fantastic contribution to Glasgow and has played a major part in the city becoming Scotland’s conference capital.
”She has built up an exceptional team whose professionalism and expertise are recognised by conference clients and meetings industry professionals alike. This outstanding reputation was highlighted in March of this year when GCMB was awarded the title of the UK’s Best Convention Bureau for the fifth consecutive year.
“Whilst we are obviously sad to see Molly leave GCMB, we fully understand her reasons for doing so and wish her the very best in her future plans.”
As well as ensuring a smooth handover with her successor, Molly will also be on secondment to the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee until September, where her responsibilities will include assisting the Organising Committee in defining the accommodation requirements for the various client groups who attend the Games in an official capacity.
Additionally Molly will use her considerable experience to support the process that will identify a Games Travel provider and begin the selection of specific hotels required by VIPs and Dignitaries visiting the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Commenting on her early retirement, Molly added: “Retiring from GCMB has been a difficult decision to make as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. However I do so in the knowledge that I leave behind a highly motivated, focused and world class conference sales team who will ensure that Glasgow’s reputation as a global meetings centre continues to go from strength to strength and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Glasgow 2014 in the coming months”
