Ana María Viscasillas, President and CEO, Puerto Rico Convention Bureau announced that Luis A. Méndez has joined the organization as Senior Vice- President of Sales.
In his new role, Méndez, based in Miami, will be responsible for managing all of the Bureau’s business units in the Continental United States, providing long term vision and supervision to the Bureau sales team.
A seasoned hotelier with vast sales and marketing expertise in the corporate, leisure and group/convention market, Luis A. Méndez has worked for several top name hotel companies including the Westin, Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance brands.
Working internationally, as well as with several of Puerto Rico’s top hotel brands, most recently, Méndez held the position of Director of Sales & Marketing for the Inter-Continental San Juan Resort & Casino, where he created and implemented a strong marketing and sales plan with a focus on branding initiatives.
“Luis has a deep understanding of the local market, as well as national and international experience that will prove invaluable as he leads the Mainland team in developing single and multiple hotel group sales as well as Convention Center bookings,” stated Viscasillas.
“As a member of our sales team in the late 90s, Luis is familiar with the Bureau’s vision as well as the goals of our member-suppliers. As we aim to further develop our Ambassador initiative and increase business from the Mainland, he will work synergistically with our San Juan business unit, as well as our local contacts and resources to continue to develop the meetings and conventions market for the destination.”
As a leading group and convention sales professional, Méndez serves on the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Center for Medical Education and is a former member of the Puerto Rico Hotel Association’s Marketing Committee. Luis A. Méndez earned his degree from Sacred Heart University , with a B.A. in Communications and a Minor in Marketing Management.
