Marathon man Ian Jones, director of group sales, De Vere Venues has raised an amazing £6,000 for The Children’s Variety Club following his fundraising and running of the London and Brighton Marathons in April.
With the support of his family and the financial contribution of over 150 people, Ian completed the courses in the very respectable times of 5 hours 1 minute 32 seconds and 5 hours 31 minutes and 19 seconds. Ian completed the London Marathon just one week after running the same distance in Brighton.
Ian’s achievement comes months after De Vere helped to raise a staggering £67,000 for the Variety Club at De Vere Venue’s annual Burn’s Night in February.
The fundraising will come as a great boost to the Children’s Variety Club and will enable the charity to continue its great work in undertaking life changing work for children and young people in the UK.
“I thoroughly enjoyed both marathons and the support of the crowd was immense along both routes. I know the money raised will be incredibly well spent on projects, equipment and support which could alter the course of a young person’s life for the better."
"I was lucky enough to meet a young man who has benefited from the work of the Variety Club; Matt King broke his neck at 17 which left him a quadriplegic."
"The Variety Club has helped to fund a very special wheel chair which has given Matt the independence to return to school, complete his A-Levels and study a degree in Law. This is just one example of the many inspiring life changing things the Children’s Variety Club does,” commented Ian Jones.
