David Frandsen Named M&S Director At ICCD

david-frandsenThe International Convention Centre Durban (ICCD) announced the appointment of David Frandsen as their new Marketing & Sales Director.

Frandsen joined the company in October and takes over from Lyrene Zimmerman. 

Frandsen joins the ICCD from the Cape Town Convention Bureau, which he headed up since 2006.

As head of the Cape Town Convention Bureau he served as the Board member representing Cape Town on the BestCities Global Alliance of Convention Bureaux, which groups some of the most prominent global conventions and meetings city bureaux.

He was nominated international Board Chair of the BestCities Alliance for 2011. Frandsen also serves on the Board of the South African Chapter of SITE (Society for Incentive Travel Executives) and is an active member of SAACI (South African Association for the Conference Industry).

The Cape Town Convention Bureau has been particularly active and successful in bidding for international conferences for Cape Town and during his tenure secured more than 100 confernces for the destination with an economic impact of more than R1-billion. 

He has extensive experience in the marketing and tourism industries having been previously employed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife as Ecotourism and Marketing Director, implementing a new tourism and marketing strategy which significantly improved financial performance for the organization, and previously at Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve.  

His main focus at the ICCD will be increasing revenue and performance in all segments of the business.

Commenting on the new appointment Julie-May Ellingson, Chief Executive Officer said; “I would like to thank Lyrene for her tremendous contribution over the last two years and wish her well in the future.  We are delighted to welcome David to the ICCD team and with his significant knowledge and experience will take charge of developing the marketing and sales strategies for our business. We have no doubt that he will be successful in this role and will bring innovation to the ICCD’s proposition and customer experience.”

Commenting on his appointment, David said; “I’m looking forward to this new and exciting challenge utilising my marketing and sales experience to build on the excellent achievements of the ICCD. Having grown up in Durban I am also passionate about the city and KwaZulu-Natal and its potential to develop as a significant player in the global business tourism sector.”
