Taiwan To Host 2011 IDA Congress

Meet-TaiwanTaipei City has been selected, among 19 competing cities in 13 countries, to host the 2011 International Design Alliance (IDA) Congress, the most prestigious event since the 21st Summer Deaf Olympics Taipei 2009 and Taipei International Flora Exposition.

The 2011 IDA Congress will be hosted from October 24 ~ 26 in Taipei City.

This is particularly meaningful as this exhibit is the first one after the IDA, or International Design Alliance, was formed by Icograda, ICSID and IFI, and it is also the most anticipated event in the Year of Taiwan Design, or the Centennial Celebration in Taiwan.

More than 3,000 professional designers from all over the world will come to Taiwan to take part in this event.

In addition to the 2011 IDA Congress that attracts professionals in the fields of graphic design, industrial design and interior design, the government will specially host the Taipei World Design Expo 2011 in Hall 1, Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition, TWTC, Songshan Creative & Culture Park and Nangang Exhibition Hall, Taipei World Trade Center from September 30th to October 30th.

This expo is interdisciplinary in nature and will cover design fields including industrial, interior, graphic and craft designs. It will also extend into disciplines such as architecture, culture, and art.

Participating designers will come from 34 countries including the UK, France, Germany, US, Japan and Korea, and more than 6,000 works of design have been submitted from conglomerates, design houses, colleges of design, and design promoting organizations.

The Taipei World Design Expo 2011 runs from September 30th to October 30th, and the newly completed Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is selected to be the first exhibit site. There are six exhibition sites: Theme Exhibition, International Industrial Design Exhibition, International Interior Design Exhibition, International Graphic Design Exhibition, International Craft Design Exhibition, and Interdisciplinary Creative Works on Asia's Cultural Creativity Exhibition.

Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in the eastern part of Taipei is a historical site that originally belonged to the Songshan Tobacco Factory, which was once the largest cigarette factory in Asia. The factory was built in the Japanese modernist style of the early 1900s. The planners of this expo have thus elegantly combined the classic and modern elements.

The expo will move to the Nangang Exhibition Hall from October 22nd to October 30th, and the most international and forward-looking modern technologies will be utilized to host the exhibit. By then, the exhibit site will be divided into five exhibition areas - Enterprises Area, International Design Networking Area, Touching Design Exhibit Area, Multi-media Design Area and Taiwan-Mainland China Design Area.

Meanwhile, the Taiwan Designers Exhibition will be held at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1. This will showcase the creativity of 100 contemporary Taiwan designers and their works, design specialties from domestic and international design colleges, forward-looking design research institutes, and achievements from the Young Designers Workshop.
