Rotterdam recently won the bid to host the Annual ESDR Meeting, a conference of the European Society for Dermatological Research.
This four-day event will be held in September 2015 in Rotterdam and is expected to attract 800 delegates, which will bring the city a total of 1.4 million euros.
The location selected for this conference is the Beurs - World Trade Center.
Dr Maarten Vermeer, a member of the ESDR board, explains why the ESDR opted to organise this event in Rotterdam: “I think that the combination of the Beurs-WTC location, the accessibility of the city from Schiphol Airport, the relatively low costs, the image of a young and dynamic city, and the Incentive Fund played a role in choosing Rotterdam. Our own dermatological input naturally also helped us choose to organise this conference in Rotterdam.”
The bid book for this event was compiled thanks to close cooperation between Congress Care, a congress management bureau specialised in organising medical and scientific events, Rotterdam Marketing (Rotterdam Convention Bureau) and Beurs - World Trade Center.
An extensive site inspection also took place in Rotterdam, after which the Rotterdam bid was presented to the ESDR board in Geneva.
For some years now, the Rotterdam Incentive Fund has been offering financial support to initiators of international non-corporate conferences, available under certain terms. In line with the main sectors in the city, the fund focuses on events for the medical, industrial, creative and port sectors.
Ton Wesselink, director of Rotterdam Marketing, is pleased to see the 2015 Annual ESDR Meeting come to Rotterdam. “This conference will bring significant revenues to Rotterdam; it will be a solid stimulus for the city. Moreover, it is an honour that the ESDR board has been convinced that Rotterdam will be a good home base for the conference in 2015.”
