Montréal To Host Prestigious World Congress Of Political Science In 2014

Montreal-CCThe Palais des congrès de Montréal and the International Political Science Association proudly announced Montréal will host the 23rd World Congress of Political Science July 19 to 25, 2014.

The event, which is expected to draw 3,500 delegates from more than 80 countries as well as 50 exhibitors, will generate over $8 million in economic spinoffs for the city.

According to the IPSA’s Secretary General, Professor Guy Lachapelle, the selection of Montréal fully reflects the city’s dynamic intellectual climate, and especially the vitality of the political science community in Québec and Canada:

“I am particularly proud of the IPSA Executive Committee’s decision during their last meeting in Madrid to choose Montréal to re-host the World Congress of Political Science for a second time, after 1973."

"This speaks to both the quality of the bid and the fact that Montréal has become an international hot spot of political scientific activity.”

In fact, in 2006, the International Political Science Association chose to permanently headquarter its Secretariat at Concordia University, with the help of Montréal International.

Marc Tremblay, President and CEO of the Société du Palais des congrès de Montréal, stated: “The collaboration of Montréal tourism industry partners such as Tourisme Montréal and Cirque du Soleil was instrumental in obtaining this major event."

"The Palais team looks forward to contributing to the event’s success and to provide its participants with the type of Montréal experience that is unparalleled elsewhere and that has made us the top host city in North America for international associative events, according to the ICCA International Congress and Convention Association.”

The Palais would like to underscore the indispensable support of Stéphane Paquin, Associate Professor at Université de Sherbrooke’s school of applied political science. The collaboration of the local political science community certainly contributed to the success of the bid.

"We are delighted that Montréal was chosen as the host city for the International Political Science Association (IPSA) world convention in July 2014. The 3,500 participants from around the world will discover a most hospitable city, at the peak of festival season," said the Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.

"Montréal's tourism industry will warmly welcome the attendees who, we are convinced, will leave the city enchanted by their stay with us," concluded Charles Lapointe.
