Kuala Lumpur To Host 5000 HIV/AIDS Experts In 2013

Kuala-Lumpur-CCThe Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) will provide the stage for HIV/AIDS experts to examine the latest developments in HIV-related research when the 7th IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention (IAS 2013) is hosted in Kuala Lumpur from 30 June to 3 July 2013.

It was appropriate that Malaysia’s successful bid to host IAS 2013 be announced just prior to the World AIDS Day which is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and observed on 1 December each year.

IAS 2013 will see the world’s leading scientists, clinicians, public health experts and community leaders come together to explore scientific advances on HIV/AIDS and to share their experiences with an international audience.

About 5,000 delegates from all over the world are expected to converge in Malaysia for this conference.

Commenting on Malaysia’s latest win, Datuk Peter Brokenshire, General Manager of Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre said, "We are honoured that yet another international medical gathering has chosen the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre as its venue of choice and we look forward to welcoming the expected 5,000 delegates in 2013."

“As with the 135 other international conferences the Centre has hosted in its five years of operation, a distinguished event such as IAS 2013 will not only boost the Centre's reputation as the country's premier convention facility but also serve to seal Malaysia's growing popularity as a business tourism destination of choice in the region.”

Malaysia is the first Asian host for what is the world’s largest open scientific conference on HIV/AIDS.

The IAS was previously held in Sydney (2007) and Cape Town (2009) with the next edition to be held in Rome, Italy in July 2011.
