It's Fashionable - And Profitable - To Pop-Up In Brisbane

Brisbane-CVB-10Brisbane Marketing is holding its second Pop-Up on Thursday 18 November 2010 amid the creative heart and headquarters of internationally acclaimed Australian fashion house, Easton Pearson, in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.

The Brisbane Pop-Up is an industry event designed by Brisbane Marketing’s Convention Bureau to provide opportunities for its members to engage directly with local business and corporate clients who are interested in organising Business Events in Brisbane.

The idea behind this event is to provide a platform for more than 35 products to showcase their services to meeting and event organisers and is an opportunity for them to liaise with the decision makers who bring national and international conferences to Brisbane.

With Business Events bringing in $170 million worth of economic value to Brisbane every year, and $17 billion a year nationally, it is big business.

Coupled with the fact that Business Events delegates generate five times more economic benefit than leisure travellers, it makes good economics to promote the benefits of Brisbane as a meeting destination.

“This event is a unique way to network with meeting planners, event organisers and decision makers who are responsibile for managing meetings and to tap into opportunities on their businesses’ national and international calendar of events,” said Annabel Sullivan, Brisbane Marketing’s Director – Convention Bureau, charged with attracting meetings, conferences and delegates to Brisbane to drive long-term economic and social benefits to businesses and residents.

“A diverse range of organisations will be attending the Brisbane Pop-Up.  Meeting planners and event organisers from educational institutions, engineering and professional services companies, national corporates, associations, as well as financial services, ICT, mining and infrastructure companies are coming along."

“Many of these businesses organise events for their clients, internal staff and the broader public – potentially providing a solid pipeline of Business Event opportunities that Brisbane can host,” she said.

Mandie Quince, Event Coordinator from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) realises the benefits of the Brisbane Pop-Up and the return that business events has for industry and business development.

“As a diverse organisation, QIMR organises numerous events for national and international researchers each year to showcase our innovation in R&D. The Pop-Up event is a great opportunity to get a snapshot of the products and services that we can incorporate into our various conference and is an efficient way to plan for next year’s events” said Ms Quince.

Susan Stewart, Sales Manager SEQ from Staging Connections was delighted with the outcomes from last year’s Brisbane Pop-Up event. She found it a cost-effective way to generate new business and get the company’s name out to a range of different clients.

“In less than two hours we managed to secure new contract worth over $100,000 from one night. We are looking forward to this year’s Pop-Up,” said Ms Stewart.
