Glasgow To Host UK’s Biggest Wind, Wave And Tidal Energy Conference

Glasgow-CVB-NewMore than 4,000 delegates will converge on Glasgow this week when RenewableUK – the country’s leading renewable energy trade association representing the wind and marine energy industries – holds its 32nd Annual Conference and Exhibition from November 2nd to 4th at the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre.

Previously held in Glasgow in 2006 and 2007, it is widely recognised as one of the UK’s largest and most important renewable energy events, and is expected to generate £1.7 million for the city’s economy.

Key note speakers include Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, and Charles Hendry, UK Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

With around 300 exhibitors attending, RenewableUK 2010 is an ideal opportunity for members of the public to learn more about renewable energy.

Free lectures will explain the background to the marine and wind energy markets and why Scotland is optimistic about the opportunities it will create to develop world-class skills and expertise in these industries.

There will be free entry on Thursday (November 4) for visitors who want to gain a better understanding of the scale of the developments forecast and the different ways in which power from the sea and wind will be harnessed.

In addition, individuals wanting to become more pro-active in supporting the development of renewable energy will be able to attend a free Embrace My Planet (www.embracemyplanet.com) seminar. This UK-wide network gives people a channel through which they can show their support for renewable energy projects at both a local and national level.

The conference and exhibition has been brought to the city with assistance from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB).

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of GCMB, said: “We are delighted to welcome RenewableUK back to Glasgow in 2010, which serves to reinforce the city’s, and Scotland’s, green credentials."

“Glasgow continues to be an attractive destination to conference and major event organisers due to our excellent conference facilities and venues, high-quality hotel accomodation and vibrant city life."

“Our close ties with the city’s academic, scientific, medical and business communities, as well as the SECC, are integral to attracting these highly-specialist events.”
