Next month the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) will welcome the 10th International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection attracting around 3,000 clinicians and researchers to the city from 7th – 11th November.
The conference, affectionately known as “The Glasgow Conference”, returns to the SECC for the 9th time with delegates travelling from across the globe to discuss developments in the treatment of HIV, which affects more than 5000 individuals in Scotland* and an estimated 33.4 million* people worldwide.
Established in 1992, the congress aims to provide a relevant and scientific programme, reflecting recent progress in therapeutic strategies and research affecting the management of HIV infection.
During the conference key note lectures will be made by medical experts from the USA and Zimbabwe. HIV 10 will also host the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow’s Lock Lecture – named after Glasgow’s women’s hospital for venereal diseases - which will be made by Professor David Cooper of the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
Professor Ian Weller, Chairman of the congress commented: “We are pleased that the Congress is returning to Glasgow in 2010. The facilities at the SECC and in the city are perfectly suited to the needs of the conference and we are looking forward to welcoming returning and new delegates to Glasgow."
"We very much hope that the Congress will continue to reflect the progress being made in the treatment of HIV infection.”
Ben Goedegebuure, Director of Sales at the SECC added: “The team at the SECC are delighted to be welcoming back the International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection for their 10th Congress in 2010 which is also our 25th anniversary year."
"Hosting this important event for the 9th year is testament to the service and support we offer our clients, putting us ahead of our competitors and marking the SECC as a leading events venue. Our close ties with the city’s universities and the scientific community as well as the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) are integral to attracting these specialist events.”
Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of GCMB also commented: “Securing events of this stature is great for Glasgow and emphasises the strong credentials the city has when it comes to hosting international meetings such as these. GCMB and SECC will be working alongside our city partners to ensure the HIV 10 congress is another success for the event organisers and the City of Glasgow.”
