Having previously been held in Sydney, Venice, Edinburgh and Melbourne, the International Conference on the Arts in Society is coming to Liverpool in 2011.
Usually held in the summer, the event is expected to attract around 200-300 delegates over four days.
Liverpool’s status as a cultural icon and a new collaboration between the city’s University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University to create a Cultural Capital institute were key factors in the successful bid.
Carol O’Reilly, Liverpool Convention Bureau Manager comments; “The success of this bid has been a real collaboration of culture. We played up to our artistic credibility as a destination, not least by referring to 2008’s Capital of Culture status, but also to our Biennial, which is one of the largest, as well as most exciting, contemporary visual art events in the UK."
“Moreover, the collaboration by our two universities in creating a new institute further strengthened our credentials as the right city to host such a significant art conference.”
Dates and venue for the Conference on the Arts in Society event are still to be finalised but it is expected that it will be held in one of the city’s academic venues.
