Meeting Professionals Unite To Fund Economic Impact Studies

MPIAt the European Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings (EIBTM) exhibition this week, Meeting Professionals International Foundation (MPIF) leaders are connecting with individuals at this critical point in the economic recovery throughout Europe.

Leaders from the MPIF’s European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) council will discuss the funding of multiple country-specific economic impact studies, including the United Kingdom and France.

During widespread economic downturn, European meeting professionals are invited to invest in an initiative to validate the industry in the eyes of global business and government leaders.

“Any generous funds the Foundation collects in Europe are invested in projects regarding solely Europe,” said Alan Pini, CMP, CMM, chairman of the council for the MPIF EMEA council.

“After being instrumental in producing the Canadian economic impact study, we want to bring the same tool to our professional friends in Europe.”

The research is intended to focus on both the supply and demand of the meetings and events industry - something that has never been undertaken before in Europe. When funded, this study will, for the first time, give the meetings and events industry a relevant measure of its economic contribution in the United Kingdom and France.

EIBTM delegates will have the opportunity to discuss the EMEA council’s current and future projects with Pini and Scaillet from 14:00 to 15:00 on 1 December 2010 at stand N750.

The MPIF funded the Canadian economic impact study for the previous two years and looks forward to bringing the initiative to the EMEA region. In addition to economic impact studies, the MPIF EMEA council continues to delegate funds to individuals for professional development through scholarships for The MPI Global Training Practice.

“The council contributes to the industry at large through research and investments that are allocated for individuals,” said Didier Scaillet, chief development officer for MPI. “The most significant investment is in facilitating the education and career advancement of enterprising meeting professionals.”

In addition to the current fundraising, the MPIF EMEA council assisted in raising funds for the Sustainable Event Measurement Tool (SEMT) which is free for MPI members. Delegates can explore the tool at stand N750 during EIBTM tradeshow hours.
