The international event industry met for a three day congress in the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf from February 13-15, 2011.
Approximately 400 partici-pants attended the European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC) hosted by the global association Meeting Professionals International (MPI).
The EMEC congress featured well-known international speakers discussing current topics in the event business.
“Even as our 2011 FutureWatch research indi-cates growing trends in technology and hybrid events, we see the continued need for strategic face-to-face business meetings,“ explains Bruce MacMillan, President and CEO of MPI.
“Düsseldorf has truly impressed us. They have raised the bar on what we expect from an EMEC host city. They have been an exceptional partner in delivering this European conference.”
Eric Rozenberg, Chairman of the MPI International Board of Directors adds: “We all felt very wel-come in Düsseldorf and appreciated the graciousness and good nature of the staff at DüsseldorfCongress.“
“For us, it was a huge opportunity to host the international event industry in Düsseldorf,” says Hilmar Guckert, CEO of DüsseldorfCongress. “It allowed us to present our multifaceted event venues to MPI participants and help them better appreciate Düsseldorf as an ideal event destination.”
In addition to attending industry-related educational programs, congress participants also got involved in selected social projects. For example, they had the opportunity to work alongside people with disabilities at the sheltered workshop Werkstatt für angepasste Arbeit (Wfaa) in assembling wooden toys, or heed the call of The Foundation for Hospital Art by paintings canvases to be presented later to the Congress of Düsseldorf Hospitals.
The conference wrapped up with a bang yesterday in the unusual event venue “Station Airport.” The international guests from the event industry were intrigued by the event venue boasting panorama windows providing a spectacular close-up view of the airplanes taking off and landing.
