The Vienna Convention Bureau at the Vienna Tourist Board can justifiably call itself Europe's most highly qualified convention bureau.

Its staff now includes four "Certified Meeting Professionals", a title convention experts may use when they have completed a rigorous training program and demonstrated the knowledge they have acquired by passing a demanding written examination.

No other European convention bureau currently has as many CMPs as the Vienna Convention Bureau.

The training program to qualify as a "Certified Meeting Professional" (CMP) is offered by the Convention Industry Council (CIC), an association of 33 member organizations from all over the world dedicated to the exchange of information and the development of stringent professional quality standards for the international convention industry.

Candidates for CMP education program must demonstrate that they have excellent qualifications and a number of years' experience working in the convention industry.

Only candidates who meet these requirements are entitled to receive the CIC study materials and take part in a written examination that lasts several hours.

Ulrike von Arnold, Deputy Director at the Vienna Convention Bureau, and Marketing Managers Astrid Vuketich and Ingeborg Schneider have passed the examination in June 2009. They may now use the title CMP.

Marketing Manager May Sollinger-Soucek qualified as a CMP already in January 2008.
