Riccardo Chailly to become Leipzig's "congress ambassador"

Riccardo_ChaillyGewandhaus music director Riccardo Chailly can be seen on the new theme image with which the Congress Initiative is now going to promote Leipzig as a congress and convention city.

The internationally renowned maestro, who made his debut in his native city Milan at the age of only seventeen, says about his new home:

"What touches me most about Leipzig is not only the grand musical tradition - above all it is the kindness with which visitors and guests are welcomed everywhere."

Volker Bremer, managing director of Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing (LTM) comments happily:

"Congresses are today particularly influenced by an interesting social programme. This is where Leipzig excels as a city with an enormous cultural potential. Riccardo Chailly is a both nationally and internationally highly recognized, outstanding personality and for the city of Leipzig's multifaceted cultural life certainly one of the most important figures. Winning him over for the new theme is of great importance for the campaign."

Since 2005, Riccardo Chailly has been the 19th Gewandhauskapellmeister (music director and chief conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus).

He conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the New York Philharmonics and other famous ensembles. Today it is the Gewandhaus Orchestra that he is lending a exceptional artistic profile.

The theme was photographed by Jörg Lange in the classicist cupola hall of the Bibliotheca Albertina, which like no other location represents the great academic tradition of the city of Leipzig.

The imposing building accommodates an impressive list of bibliophilic treasures, which have been collected in the course of Leipzig University's 600 years of existence. Today the institution offers state-of-the art facilities for study and research as well as 800 jobs.

Since 2008 the campaign named "do-it-at-leipzig", drafted by BRANDUNG, has shown Leipzig personalities in unusual, spectacular places in the city.

The idea is to use Leipzig's creative potential and the exceptional spatial conditions to communicate an image and to make congress and event organisers aware of Leipzig.

The do-it-at-leipzig Congress Initiative is managed by LTM GmbH and the Leipziger Messe GmbH. Brand advertising and the internet portal under the same name are important modules of the initiative's marketing activities. 47 partners - hotels, event locations and others service providers cooperate here.

Those interested in holding an event in Leipzig are well advised to go to www.do-it-at-leipzig.de , a platform which has been extended since 2008.

At one glance information is provided here on congress and seminar hotels, convention centres, event locations and professional service providers. On the internet or on CD search options can be applied to look for specific seating schemes or the geographical situation of an event location.
