NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau has boosted the competitive edge of the twin cities as a business tourism and conferencing destination after joining the Meetings Industry Association (MIA) and gaining accreditation in the Accredited in Meetings (AIM) scheme.
MIA is the UK and Ireland's leading professional organisation for the meetings industry and the AIM scheme is endorsed by VisitBritain, the national tourism body.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism for NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “NewcastleGateshead is already one of the UK’s leading conference destinations and the fact that the quality of our service has been recognised by a major industry association is a great boost. This accreditation serves to demonstrate our aim to provide an excellent, impartial and free service to conference organisers, agents and business leaders.”
To become a member of the association, all venues and suppliers must meet the requirements of AIM entry level.
MIA Chief Executive Jane Evans said: “Congratulations to the team at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau. During tough trading conditions every marketing advantage helps and with this award NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau has assured itself a deserved place at the very top of every procurement list.
“It is more important than ever that venues and suppliers take advantage of the credibility the MIA’s AIM scheme offers in making their businesses a cut above the rest.”
