Liverpool to host The Labour Party Annual Conference

acc_liverpoolTaking place in September 2011, the key four day governmental event will be held at ACC Liverpool, utilising both the BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena.

Held every autumn, Labour's Annual Conference is one of the largest and most high profile political events in Europe with over 20,000 delegates and visitors in attendance.

Led by Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and The Cabinet, the four day conference is a forum for shaping Labour's vision for Britain.

The decision to stage the pinnacle governmental conference follows a joint bid submitted by ACC Liverpool, Liverpool City Council and The Mersey Partnership.

The high profile event will generate tens of millions of pounds for Liverpool's economy from accommodation, media coverage and related incremental expenditure.

The event will follow 2009's conference in Brighton and 2010's in Manchester. The announcement sees Labour breaking from tradition by holding its annual conference for the first time in Liverpool.

Since opening in 2008, ACC Liverpool has developed a reputation for governmental and political events having staged Cabinet meetings and the Liberal Democrats' Spring Conference 2009.

Jacquie Rogers, General Manager of BT Convention Centre Liverpool, said: "The news that one of the UK's main political parties has chosen ACC Liverpool for its biggest annual gathering is a major coup for the city, and confirms our standing as a major player in the meetings industry. The Labour Party Annual Conference is one of the biggest events in the political calendar and we are looking forward to showcasing what ACC Liverpool and the city have to offer."

Bob Prattey, Chief Executive of ACC Liverpool, said: "Our venue is perfect for high-profile events such as this because it can be effectively sealed off to create a secure 'campus' site. This has previously been proven through other political events held here. The venue also appealed to The Labour Party because of our unique combination of facilities, which allows them to utilise not only the BT Convention Centre but also the adjacent Echo Arena, providing a further 10,600 seats."
