The Lisboa Convention Bureau (LCB), the section of Turismo de Lisboa responsible for attracting business events, was named Best European Convention Bureau at the Business Destination Service Awards 2009 held in June 2009.
Awarded by the British trade magazine Business Destination, the prize provides international recognition for the excellent work carried out by the LCB to attract professional congresses, corporate conferences, company incentives and product launches.
These and other events are key to making Lisboa one of the world's top business tourism destinations.
The winners of the Business Destination 2009 Service Awards were decided through online voting by companies and institutions linked to business tourism.
At the same award ceremony, the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa was awarded the prize for Best Conference Facilities - Western Europe, succeeding the RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre in Amsterdam.

MUDE revives historic city centre - The opening of Lisboa's latest new museum, MUDE - Museu do Design e da Moda (Museum of Design and Fashion), promises to change the face of the Pombaline Baixa by infusing one of the city's most symbolic areas with a degree of modernity and dynamism.
Located in the pedestrian zone of Rua Augusta, the museum represents a key asset in the effort to consolidate the city as a compulsory destination on the international cultural tourism circuit. Housed in unique premises, MUDE possesses one of the best displays of fashion and design made up of 2,500 items from the collection of Francisco Capelo.
Alongside its artistic contribution, MUDE forms part of the urban regeneration project for the area between Terreiro do Paço and the Pombaline Baixa. Set in a magnificent building that was once the head office of a bank, it provides a fine example of the rehabilitation of Lisboa's architectural heritage.
The building is being completely remodelled as part of a "work in progress" to house the museum's collection and ancillary services over four floors. This work is due to be completed in 2010.
The regeneration project for the area around 'Terreiro do Paço' and its neighbouring streets will be announced shortly. The preliminary study includes widening the riverfront promenade, pedestrian esplanades and new accesses to 'Cais das Colunas'.
