'Keep Britain Talking' campaign reaches regional level

keep_britain_talkingLocal support boosts meetings business message ahead of Event UKThe message to Keep Britain Talking through meetings has penetrated regional level, with the campaign set to reach its zenith at Event UK this year, according to Joss Croft, head of business visits and events at VisitBritain.

Running in synergy with the US initiative 'Keep America Meeting', Keep Britain Talking is the awareness campaign run by VisitBritain to encourage business in the UK to keep communicating through meetings and events, and to support the UK meetings industry by holding those events in the UK.

Croft said: "Campaigns such as Keep Nottingham Talking (Nottingham Conferences, Nottingham Arena and Experience Nottinghamshire) and Keep Scotland Talking (Macdonald Hotels & Resorts) represent the tip of the iceberg, with local buyer/supplier events also supported by regional media campaigns."

"Equally, the involvement of partners like Sodexo Prestige and Visit London have led to a series of events in unique venues across the country as well as a London bus touring from the capital to Event UK in Birmingham (22-23 September)."

Croft added that the devaluation of the pound has been seized upon to offer a new 'Value Britain' message both domestically and internationally.

"VisitBritain is ideally placed to grow the lobbying part of the campaign, and the synergies with the US initiative have given us the ideal opportunity to progress constructive dialogue with government across departments concerned with business tourism, from the Inland Revenue, Home Office, Foreign Office, to the Department of Trade Industry and Sport.

"The campaign is gathering momentum all the time and will reach its zenith at Event UK this year; fittingly, this will also coincide with the Association Summit, another clear example of the industry coming together. The outcomes of that meeting, like the Keep Britain Talking campaign are vital in driving awareness of this industry, a goal we hope will help bring us out of this tough environment both quicker and stronger."
