Vancouver Again Tops Liveability Rankings

Vancouver-CCThe Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has once again named Vancouver as the world’s most liveable city.

The organization’s Global Liveability Ranking reviewed 140 cities around the world on over 30 indicators grouped in five categories: stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure and culture/environment.

Vancouver has topped the EIU’s Liveability Ranking since 2004.

The report stated: "Vancouver remains at the top of the ranking, a position that can only have been cemented by the successful hosting of the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which provided a boost to the infrastructure and culture and environment categories."

"It’s great to see Vancouver continue to be recognized as the world’s most livable city," said Vancouver Mayor, Gregor Robertson.

"We’ve worked hard to ensure that we have a safe, vibrant city, one that protects green space and fosters a strong local economy. Recognition such as this from the EIU is a true validation of our efforts."

The Global Liveability Ranking report is part of the EIU’s Worldwide Cost of Living Survey. The survey gives a rating of 0 - 100% on each of the criteria and judges a city with a higher score to be the more attractive destination.

Vancouver’s overall score was 98%. Following Vancouver in the rankings were Melbourne, Vienna, Toronto and Calgary.

"It’s an honour to be named the EIU’s world’s most liveable city and one that validates the pride we all feel about this beautiful place that we call home," stated Tourism Vancouver board chair, James E. Terry. "It’s recognition like this that truly sets us apart from other destinations."

Tourism Vancouver’s focus is on building exceptional customer relationships with meeting planners, travel influencers, travel media and independent tourists. The organization’s brand essence is about "exceeding expectations".
