To help promote the sustainability of Ireland as a destination, Tourism Ireland has this week launched its Conference CO2 calculator app for the iPhone.
The innovative free app, the first of its kind from a tourist board, has been developed for conference and events professionals to check the carbon emissions associated with international delegate travel.
As a destination perfectly placed to host environmentally conscious meetings and events, the app also offers tips on hosting greener meetings.
The launch of the iPhone app coincides with the opening of the Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) – the world’s first carbon neutral international convention centre – and highlights the green credentials of travel to Dublin using carbon emission data from AMEE.
A sophisticated design, users are able to specify unlimited delegate departure locations, compare the CO2 emissions associated with air travel to three international destinations at a time, as well as evaluate their chosen event or meeting destination with travel to Dublin.
Users are also able to view special offers directly from venues and hotels in Dublin, with the section expanding to other Irish locations over the coming months.

This app helps organisers assess their conference or event on its CO2 emissions and we’re delighted that Dublin comes out top around 95% of the time."

In order to save conference organisers time, the app allows users to email results, save special offers, view pricing structures and contact venues directly. Tourism Ireland already has plans in place to extend the app across other Irish destinations including Belfast and the south east in 2011.
Tourism Ireland will be promoting both The CCD opening and the iPhone app at Square Meal this month on stand C27, where they will also be offering the chance to win one of five iPhone 4s.
