The Mersey Partnership (TMP) has won a prestigious destination marketing award beating competition from London and Partners, Malta Tourism and Visit Scotland.
The award was announced at the Conference & Incentive Travel (C&IT) Awards presented at the Natural History Museum in London.
C&IT is one of the UK's conference industry’s leading publishers.
The judges singled out TMP’s entry for its range and the quality of marketing and PR activity targeting business tourism, consumer and travel trade audiences.
TMP Chief Executive Lorraine Rogers commented: “We're delighted TMP has won this award against competitor organisations representing London, Scotland and Malta. Our marketing and PR initiatives involve close collaboration with local authorities, venues, hotels and others in the visitor economy so this is very much recognition of that team effort."
“Marketing and PR play a vital role in showcasing the destination – attracting visitors, delegates and travel operators to bring their business to our City Region and we're fortunate to have a range of world class assets to promote through our campaigns, websites, DVDs, brochures and PR initiatives.”
The C&IT Awards judges commented: “These efforts have played a huge part in Liverpool becoming a serious player in the convention market, attracting the likes of the TUC and Labour Party conferences, and helped Liverpool rank seventh out of all English cities for business visits in 2010, a 64% increase on 2009, and jump to the sixth best destination for overseas visits, up from ninth place.”
This is the latest prestigious award for the destination. Only last week TripAdvisor visitors rated Liverpool as the best nightlife destination in Britain. Other recent accolades include Condé Nast Traveller readers voting Liverpool as the UK’s friendliest destination (2010 and 2011); readers of Group Leisure magazine named Liverpool the Best UK City 2011; and Southport was named The World’s Most Friendly City for Group Tourism by the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
