Sunshine Coast Workshop To Focus On Incentive Travel

Sunshine-Coast-DestinationBusiness Events Sunshine Coast (BESC) is holding an 'All about Business Events’ workshop for tourism operators tomorrow June 23, 2011).

In partnership with Tourism Queensland, the workshop will have a particular focus on the incentive market.

Travel incentives are a way for companies to reward or provide recognition to staff for their performance.

They are a business tool used to improve staff motivation and increase business profit. Incentive travel is the highest yielding sector within tourism, as incentive groups traditionally spend 2.5 times more per day than the average holidaymaker.

Tourism Queensland has recently launched a multi-million dollar incentive campaign, “The Million Dollar Memo” to position Queensland as a world-class incentive destination and BESC is one of four Queensland convention bureaux supporting the campaign.

Pippa McCreery, Business Events Manager said, “The Sunshine Coast is one of the most beautiful, natural and unspoilt locations in Australia, and which is of huge appeal for incentive groups. The region’s wide array of unique activities, events and spectacular year-round climate, makes the Sunshine Coast a good candidate for this type of business."

“BESC is aiming to get more local operators incentive-ready. This workshop signifies the start of this education and up-skilling journey.” added Ms McCreery.

Two incentive sector specialists will be presenting at the workshop:

Anna Stewart, Director of Queensland Conventions & Incentives - Anna‘s career spans over 26 years in the business events sector. Some of her roles included working at the Tasmanian Convention Bureau, Gold Coast Tourism and heading up the Conventions & Incentives department at Tourism Queensland.

Sonja Soderbom AFMEA, Manager, Destination Management from arinex - Sonja commenced with arinex (one of Australia’s leading specialists in incentive and conference business) in April 1999.

Since then, she has been instrumental in bringing corporate incentive groups to the South Pacific region, mainly from the US and European markets. Sonja has managed VIP programs for groups from 10 to 2000 people.
