The Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) has secured a total of 42 conventions this year which are expected to deliver 97 390 delegate days to the heart of the World’s oldest rainforest, Sarawak between 2010 and 2016.
The 42 conventions are anticipated to generate RM 54,293,140 million in delegate expenditure and cover a wide range of topics, including Education, Engineering, Health, Orthodontics, Urology to Medicinal and IT.
These conventions will position Sarawak as competitive new destination and boost Malaysia’s growing reputation as meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition (MICE) destination globally.
The conventions won include:
- 50th MD 308 Lions Convention, 2012 - 26 to 30 April 2012, 2,000 Delegates
- 10th Congress Asia Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (APFSSH 2014) - 1 to 4 October 2014, 1,000 Delegates
- Rwo Shr Health International Conference 2012- 28 February to 1 March 2012, 1,000 Delegates
- The CDA / MDA 69th AGM Malaysia Dental Association Conference and Trade Exhibition 2012 - 30 May to 1 June 2012, 3,200 Delegates
- Global Conference 2011 - 30 November to 3 December 2011, 2,000 Delegates
- The Borneo International Culinary & Hospitality Week 2012 - 1 to 3 March 2012, 3,000 Delegates
- 4th World Conference in Science and Technology Education 2013 - 10 to 14 June 2013, 1000 Delegates
- 9th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Congress (APOC) - 5 to 8 July 2014, 2200 Delegates
- 14th Asian Pacific Congress of Pediatrics 2012- 13 to 16 September 2012, 1,200 Delegates
- Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA) - 1 to 4 June 2014, 1,000 Delegates
During the 4th Anak Sarawak Appreciation Awards held recently to honour this year’s local hosts, Y.B. Dato’ Sri Dr. Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad, Chairman of Sarawak Convention Bureau said, “The Bureau welcomes the new Federal subvention funding available from next year through the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB)."
"We will be working very closely with MyCEB so that our convention hosts can now access both Federal and State Government funding support to help them bid for international conventions to be held here. The SCB already has a very high bid success rate of 80% and when we add Federal support into the mix it takes our chances of success even higher”.
Since the SCB was formed in 2006, the bureau has also picked up 9 international marketing and promotion awards in major international competitions such as the Diamond Award 2008 in ITB Berlin, Germany; Gold Camera Award 2008 in Los Angeles, USA; PATA Gold Award 2008 in Macau, China; Best Marketing Award 2008 in Victoria, Canada; Best Marketing Campaign Award 2009 in Barcelona, Spain; The Phoenix Award (Bronze) 2009 in Singapore; Silver Award Winner 2010, ITB Berlin, Germany; Silver Camera Award 2010 in Los Angeles, USA; and most recently the Cannes Corporate Media &TV Award for best Tourism Film in Vienna, Austria in October 2010.
