A survey conducted on behalf of the Hawai‘i Convention Center by Gerard Murphy & Associates has once again determined that Hawai‘i ranks fairly high as a destination for conventions as well as a vacation destination.
METROPOLL XIII, which was conducted in 2009 via a mail survey to a sample of major association and corporate meeting planners in the United States, also noted that although there was a slight falloff in corporate meeting incidences in Hawai‘i, association meetings held stable.
It also found that Hawai‘i has a “particularly strong reputation for being ‘good’ for international conventions” and credited it to the Hawai‘i Convention Center’s marketing activities which included trade-book ads, calls from the convention center’s sales staff, trade booth and website visits.
Gerard Murphy & Associates is a marketing consultant firm based in Overland Park, Kansas.
“Based on the research and findings of Metropoll XIII survey, our current marketing strategies and initiatives have been designed to mirror the industry needs outlined in the findings,” said Neil Mullanaphy, executive director of sales and marketing for the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
“Conventions and meetings play an important role in supporting Hawai‘i’s visitor industry and tourism economy,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawai‘i Tourism Authoity.
“The results of the Metropoll XIII survey affirm that the marketing activities and efforts of the Hawai‘i Convention Center and SMG continue to be effective in drawing and sustaining meetings and conventions in our islands.”
