From 3-4 February, just three weeks after the flood waters peaked in Brisbane, Brisbane Marketing Convention Bureau hosted eight meeting and event planners from Associations across Australia on a famil of their revitalised city.
The two day famil included visits to properties that were affected by the flood waters and have since re-opened, including the Brisbane Convention Exhibition Centre, Hillstone St Lucia and South Bank Parklands.
The Strand at Rugby Quay only re-opened on the day of the famil and Bill Brassington, the Strand’s Director of Sales, relished the opportunity to show off the venue.
“This famil provided a truly unique opportunity to showcase our new product, The Strand at Rugby Quay Event Centre, to an array of high quality event planners from across the country, reinforcing that our riverside event and meeting facilities in the heart of the CBD is indeed open for business in 2011.”
Famil attendees were impressed to see how quickly Brisbane had recovered. Pamela Richards from Speech Pathology Australia said, “It is fantastic to witness the enthusiasm and commitment of the Brisbane people to reinstate their city as a premier conference destination. It’s hard to believe there was even a flood here!”
The Convention Bureau’s famil itineraries offer a range of experiences that speak volumes about the depth and diversity of Brisbane’s business events offer.
Each itinerary is unique but recent outings have seen famil attendees dine in opulent elegance at Moreton Hire’s warehouse emporium, take a cup-cake decorating class with Moda Events at Portside and get a behind-the-scenes tour of the award-winning Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
