During IMEX Europe 2011, held in hall 8 of the Messe Frankfurt exhibition centre from 24th to 26th May, 2011, the marketing initiative “do-it-at-leipzig.de“ is presenting itself at the Germany booth of GCB, the German Convention Bureau.
Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing, together with Leipzig Zoo, a “GCB Wild Card” winner, and the Congress Center Leipzig, the city’s multifaceted event facilities will be presented to the international visitors.
The main focus will be on the tropical world of Gondwanaland, where as of 1st July, 2011, a breathtaking primeval flora and fauna will come alive again, offering an unparalleled tropical rain forest experience in the middle of Leipzig.
The unique hall covers an area of 16,500 square metres and has been laid out in the shape of a gigantic isosceles triangle. Surrounded by more than 17,000 tropical plants and about 300 exotic animals, visitors will be spoilt with Far Eastern hospitality in the Marché restaurant with Asian flair.
Exclusive event rooms are available for meetings and events from 60 to 400 people.
The marketing initiative „do-it-at-leipzig.de“ masterminds the search for unusual event concepts and rooms. The marketing cooperation of 47 Leipzig meeting hotels, event locations, service agencies and mobility partners presents itself on an online service portal. Integrated search options, e.g. in the “Event Planner”, make it possible to list meeting and event facilities individually according to the defined event criteria.
Leipzig’s growing attractiveness for national and international congress organisers and its increasing meeting and event business is also reflected in this year’s congress calendar. From 25th to 27th May, 2011, transport ministers from all over the world and hundreds of mobility experts from the fields of economy, science and research are meeting in Leipzig for the International Transport Forum (ITF).
Further on, the 50th ICCA Annual Congress (International Congress and Convention Association) is going to be held in Leipzig in 2011. From 22nd to 26th October, representatives of the meeting business from all over the world will then be guests in the Congress Center Leipzig.
In addition, there will be many other congresses and conferences in Leipzig, such as:
- LINC – Leipzig Interventional Course (c. 1,000 participants)

With altogether 1,121,257 guest arrivals (+9.2 percent) and 2,023,400 overnight stays (+7.8 percent), according to the figures of the Free State of Saxony’s Board of Statistics, Leipzig registered a new record number of guests in 2010.
For the years to come, further increases are expected in connection with top-class anniversary events, which will attract lots of visitors: 800 Years Thomana 2012, the 200th birthday of Richard Wagner (22nd May, 2013), the double anniversary of 200 years since the Battle of the Nations and 100 years of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in 2013, or 25 years since the Peaceful Revolution in 2014.
