Following the devastating floods in the Greater Brisbane region, there's a sense of optimism, resilience and camaraderie in the Brisbane business community, with many businesses resuming operations.
This week, Brisbane Marketing Convention Bureau has received overwhelming confirmation that the majority of the business events industry is back to business.
Director, Convention Bureau, Ms Annabel Sullivan said the Bureau has been in communication with its Convention Members throughout the Greater Brisbane region to get an update on their current business status.
“We are reaching out to the Brisbane business events industry to reinforce our commitment to helping them deliver world-class business events at this time."
“The Bureau is pleased to find that the majority of Members have resumed their usual operations. "
Convention Bureau Members who are back to business include:
- Brisbane Convention Exhibition Centre – event spaces were unaffected and water intrusion was limited to car parking spaces and service areas. BCEC is working towards a gradual return to business by the end of this week (Friday 21 January) and are expecting to be fully operational shortly after that.
- Royal on the Park – experienced a near miss. Water lapped at the edge of the Reception foyer, power was isolated and its reservations system impacted. The hotel looks forward to greeting guest from Monday, with limited services.
- Staging Connections – business continues to operate with the Loganholme base office unaffected by the flood crisis. A number of its venue partners have been affected by the floods but are now operational. Staging Connections are working alongside them to ensure minimal impact to operations throughout the clean-up process.
- Accor Hotels– All Brisbane-based Accor properties are operating business as usual.
In true ‘Team Brisbane’ spirit, Brisbane’s business events industry is working closely together to continue to host world-class business events and the Convention Bureau is proactively encouraging clients to hold their business events in Brisbane – Australia’s new world city.
Over the coming weeks, the Convention Bureau will focus on strategies to support confirmed business proceeding as planned.
“The Bureau will work with conference organisers to ensure that delegates receive accurate information about the state of play here in Brisbane. We will focus on maximising delegate attendance and additional opportunities to deliver Brisbane firmly back to business."
“Business events bring in $170 million worth of economic value to Brisbane every year, and $17 billion a year nationally – it is big business – and we are committed to creating economic value for Brisbane through world-class business events,” said Ms Sullivan.
