The Exhibition & Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) yesterday convened a meeting with a cross-section of major exhibition centre users, and representatives from the meetings industry, to discuss the design concept plans for a new Sydney centre, released on July 8 by the NSW Government.
The meeting was chaired by EEAA President, Matthew Pearce, and was the first step in giving feedback to the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority from the major users of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The forum was attended by EEAA board members and representatives from all sides of the meetings and exhibition industry including event organisers, PCOs and suppliers.
“The EEAA’s purpose in gathering today key industry leaders is to ensure that the “Expression of Interest” brief to be issued to the market by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority captures the needs of the centre’s biggest users.
“It is important that the design and functional brief for the new centre is appropriate if Sydney is to get the most out of this important new infrastructure investment.” said Joyce DiMascio, General Manager, EEAA.
Yesterday’s meeting clarified the tender process and EEAA will continue to gather industry feedback in order to provide direct input to Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority for inclusion in its final functional brief to tendering consortia.
“EEAA is keen to ensure that the voice of the exhibition industry is heard and that the knowledge and experience of our members is harnessed at this critical planning stage,” said Ms DiMascio.
“Our members have been working at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre for the past 23 years and are well placed to inform the Government’s consultation process with a critical perspective of what works and what doesn’t in facilities of this kind.”
