The Convention Industry Council (CIC) announced that 368 individuals passed the January 9, 2010 CMP examination.
This distinguished credential, recognized throughout the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry, demonstrates an individual’s comprehensive knowledge of meeting management as well as a commitment to the meeting profession.
“On behalf of the board of directors, congratulations to this latest class of CMPs,” said Cathy Breden, CAE, CMP, Chief Operating Officer, International Association of Exhibitions and Events and Chair of the CMP Board of Directors.
“Obtaining the CMP designation is a milestone in one’s professional career and demonstrates a level of proficiency and commitment in meeting management.”
The CMP program, established in 1985, is designed to increase the professionalism of meeting managers in all sectors of the industry; recognize and raise industry standards; and increase the value of these practitioners to their employers.
The demand for this designation continues to increase as both employers and meeting professionals realize the depth of knowledge and recognition to the profession that this certification brings to an organization.
Since its inception, the CMP designation has been earned by more than 14,000 meeting professionals in 35 countries and territories worldwide.
“This class of new CMPs exemplifies professional excellence through this rigorous application and examination process,” stated Christina Buck, CMP, CMP Program Director.
“The Convention Industry Council is proud to award the CMP designation to these individuals because as the number of CMPs increases with each new class so do the standards of excellence for meeting professionals.”
Obtaining the CMP designation is a two-part process consisting of an application and a written examination, administered and monitored by an independent testing agency.
Eligibility to take the examination is based on an extensive review of professional qualifications – candidates must have at least three years of employment in the meetings industry, and demonstrate responsibility and accountability for successful meetings.
Additionally each applicant must have completed a minimum of 25 hours of industry specific continuing education or a meeting management internship. The comprehensive written examination tests knowledge of all functions of meeting management.
The next North American CMP exam is scheduled for July 24, 2010. The CMP is one of the signature programs maintained by the Convention Industry Council that provide value to the convention industry and hospitality field.
