New packages help small meetings “go for green” at Adelaide Convention Centre

adelaide_ccThe Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) is leading the way in environmental practices in the meetings and events industry with the release of three new sustainable meetings packages that ensure even the smallest of gatherings go for green.

For the first time, the carbon emissions of each event will be calculated allowing accurate carbon offsetting as part of Adelaide Convention Centre’s push to become the most environmentally responsible convention centre in Australia.

“Reducing carbon emissions is a major priority for the Adelaide Convention Centre and these new meetings packages will continue to diminish the carbon footprint left by meetings and events in Adelaide,” Chief Executive Alec Gilbert says.

“In 2008, around 270 tonnes of carbon were offset by the Adelaide Convention Centre and there is no doubt that we will exceed this figure in 2009, with current offset carbon emissions at 150 tonnes so far this year.

“Providing meeting organisers with recycled paper notepads, low food mile catering and Fair Trade tea and coffee in addition to the Centre purchasing certified renewable electricity are just some of our many initiatives that we are implementing, underpinned by our Gold Service, Green Attitude philosophy.

“We are finding that more and more meeting organisers are committed to reducing their carbon footprint and these latest packages help them to achieve this.

“Waste minimisation and water saving devices have also been introduced across our venue and our kitchens strive to source produce from local markets and suppliers. All these factors contribute to providing an environmentally friendly facility.”

In February last year, Adelaide Convention Centre unveiled the details of its much anticipated Go for Green conference packages, believed to be an Australian first allowing convention organisers to both reduce and offset carbon emissions caused by their event.

The new packages are available to all meetings and events, regardless of size, and include carbon offsetting, a large range of environmentally friendly features as well as venue hire, a dedicated event manager, PA system including lectern, microphone and other technical services, personalised menu options, business centre facilities and more.
