Following on from winning two prestigious Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) state awards in February, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has gone on to win the national awards in the Catering and Banqueting, and Operations Person of the Year categories.
The awards were announced during the 22nd Annual Meetings and Events Industry National Conference held in Adelaide last week.
MCEC’s Event Operations Manager Chris Connelly won both the state and national MEA Awards for Operations Person of the Year, and Food and Beverage Manager Frank Burger and Executive Chef Shaun Bowles lead the food and beverage team which won both awards in the Catering and Banqueting category.
In congratulating the whole Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) team, chief executive Leigh Harry said that winning the awards is testament to the MCEC’s pursuit of excellence in business practice.
‘The MEA Awards are the cream of the crop in the Australian meeting and events industry. Congratulations to the winning teams on such an outstanding effort. These awards recognise their achievements as the best in the industry in those categories,’ Leigh said.
‘The imminent opening of the new Melbourne Convention Centre presents us with the opportunity to showcase world’s best practice levels well into the future. The new centre and its facilities will provide a level of flexibility that enables us to provide an even greater range of meeting and service options than has been possible in the past.’
On being presented with their awards, all recipients noted that winning the national MEA Awards was the result of a team effort won with the hard work and dedication of everyone involved at the MCEC.
