Australian Exhibition Industry needs collaborative research

eeaaDelegates who attended last Monday’s EEAA Leaders Forum are being urged to recognise the importance of collaborative research in producing evidence on the power and growth of the exhibition industry and its contribution to the Australian economy.

In the Forum’s CEO Roundtable session, representatives from the Business Events Council of Australia (BECA), the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB), Tourism Australia’s Business Events Australia (BEA) and Exhibition and Events Association of Australasia (EEAA) stressed the need for developing statistical evidence which supports the exhibition industry’s key role in the Australian business events sector.

“There is now, more than ever, a need for the exhibition industry to stand up and have a stronger voice. By producing reliable, statistical research, we can successfully quantify the contribution of the industry and present this to both business and Government. It’s about having a story, and telling it well,” said Elizabeth Rich, Chief Executive Officer, BECA.

Representing the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) on the panel, President Matthew Pearce stressed the need for members of the exhibition industry to collaborate with the business events sector in order to present a united front.

“We have been aware for some time now of the major impact exhibitions have on state economies around Australia. What has been missing is a collaborative process for delivering this impact in measurable terms, which in turn will enable us to lobby for financial support and greater recognition at a Government level,” said Matthew Pearce, President, Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia.

The annual Leaders Forum, hosted by the Exhibition and Events Association of Australasia, took place at Sebel Pier One in Walsh Bay, Sydney on Monday 4 May 2009. The annual event brought together CEO’s and senior decision makers from both the exhibition industry and business events sector.
