Auckland Business Tourism pleases crowd with Convene famils

More than 80 buyers enjoyed cooking fresh fish, bungy jumping and exploring country gardens on pre-Convene famils hosted by Auckland Business Tourism.

The famil programme was part of the Convene Auckland trade show held at SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre on Tuesday 7 April.

Auckland Business Tourism sponsored the programme for the second year running and hosted four experiences – urban Auckland, north of the bridge, Clevedon countryside and adrenalin.

Auckland Business Tourism manager, Anna Hayward, says her team is delighted with the success of the famils.

“We aimed for a good mix of fun, creativity and learning about local product, while of course showcasing the Auckland region. We’ve had extremely positive feedback from buyers,” says Anna.

Superb ‘foodie’ destinations were the focus of the urban Auckland famil, which was a good example of team building and a partner programme.

The north of the bridge option was useful for seeing how venues can work well together, with participants taking a ferry right to the doorstep of their lunch stop.

Lush country gardens were the stars of the Clevedon countryside famil, which was another good example of a partner programme.

The adrenalin-themed day was all about fun and demonstrating Auckland’s ability to deliver an action-packed experience.

Among the satisfied participants was Martina Fielder from Total DMC Ltd. She took part in the urban Auckland tour hosted by celebrity chef Annabelle White.

“I was inspired – it was such an awesome day! I learnt a lot of things I didn’t know before, both from a professional and personal point of view. As an Aucklander it was great to come across new things,” she says.

While these pre-Convene famils were a one-off, Auckland Business Tourism regularly helps conference and event organisers with ideas for famils or partner programmes.
