Adelaide Convention Centre - Centre of the cycling world

Adelaide-CCAdelaide will be the centre of international cycling and Adelaide Convention Centre its hub as Ausbike Adelaide, a three-day cycling extravaganza, is confirmed for 16 to 18 January 2010.

Coinciding with the Santos Tour Down Under - attracting world cycling legends such as seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong - and the National Mountain Bike Championships, Ausbike is expected to attract up to 50,000 visitors.

The Adelaide Convention Centre will be transformed for the event with BMX bike ramps fronting its North Terrace entrance and the Riverbank area by the River Torrens used for spectacular biking demonstrations.

Ausbike Australia Expo/Marketing Manager Morven Grant says the event will also include a Cycling Film Festival - a celebration of all things on two wheels from nostalgic road flicks to a mix of road, downhill, mountainbike and BMX action films.

There are $100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs, pro teams will be taking part in signings, visitors can watch a Bike Polo Tournament and see circus bikes and uni cycles on display while kids can enjoy a cycle speedway.

"Ausbike Adelaide is for everyone whether a serious cyclist or someone who enjoys the occasional recreational ride," Ms Grant says.

"There is such a buzz around Adelaide at this time of the year and the Adelaide Convention Centre is an amazing space providing the ideal setting for such an event.

"From spectacular bike demonstrations through to practical information about buying or owning a bike, this is a must visit event for the thousands of cycling fans from Australia and overseas in Adelaide at this time."

Just a few days after Ausbike finishes, the Adelaide Convention Centre will host international cycling superstar Lance Armstrong at the Legends' Night Dinner on Saturday 23 January. Lance will be interviewed on stage along with other stars of the cycling world.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said events such as Ausbike and the Legends' Dinner once again showed the versatility of the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The Santos Tour Down Under is Australia's premier cycling event, running from 17 to 24 January and featuring race routes across South Australia including Clare, the Barossa, Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula. Tickets for Ausbike Adelaide are available through BASS.
