Centerplate, a hospitality partner to North America's premier convention centers and sports venues, has been awarded the long-term contract by the City of Baltimore as the hospitality partner for the Baltimore Convention Center.
Spanning 1.2 million square feet, the Center serves as one of the premier locations for conventions, tradeshows and expositions in the country.
With the new contract, Centerplate continues to accelerate its growth and expanded presence across convention centers, sports stadiums and entertainment venues.
"We are thrilled to be working with the City of Baltimore and the Baltimore Convention Center," said Des Hague, President and CEO of Centerplate.
"Our unique total solution approach will do much more than simply enhance the food and beverage operations at the Center. We will supercharge the City's efforts in attracting business and in delivering a standard-setting meeting and event experience to each of its guests."
Centerplate currently partners with over 25 of North America's most notable convention centers, including five of the top 10 most active.
In addition to Baltimore, other prestigious convention center clients include the cities of San Diego, New York, Orlando, Vancouver, Denver, Dallas and Washington, D.C.
As part of its services to Baltimore Convention Center, Centerplate will make aesthetic upgrades, introduce new menu concepts, uptrain the service staff and implement an aggressive sales and promotions campaign.
"Centerplate brings a great reputation from its work in many of North America's foremost convention centers," said Peggy Dalidakis, Executive Director of the Baltimore Convention Center.
"We were very impressed by their energy and ideas during our review process, and we are confident that we will be a strong partner in our future success."
Centerplate has recently integrated a completely biodegradable foodservice program at the Dallas Convention Center and Orlando's Orange County Convention Center.
At the Vancouver Convention Centre, Centerplate uses cutlery, china, glass and cloth napkins for more than 95% of the food service functions and recycles, on average, 180,000 kilograms of materials annually, which is nearly half of the total volume of waste generated.
And with Centerplate's assistance, the San Diego Convention Center recycled nearly 28 percent of their total waste in 2008 and collects cooking oil, which is recycled into biodiesel fuel.
