A new exhibition (30 January to 10 February 2006) showcases a series of photographs that perfectly capture the unique appeals of Britain as a destination and inspire millions of international and British travellers to visit the destination every year.

Organised by VisitBritain, the two-week long Britain on View exhibition at Waterloo Gallery in London SE1 celebrates the British countryside and coastline. 26 photographs by a dozen contemporary landscape photographers have been carefully selected from the national tourism agency’s online library of over 40,000 unique images.

As well as images from the current Enjoy England ‘look no further’ national advertising campaign, subjects have been drawn from throughout the UK. Beachy Head, Cromer, Snowdonia, the Trossachs and the North York Moors, the Giant’s Causeway, the Hebrides and Durdle Door and many more all feature in the exhibition.

Jasmine Teer, Britain on View’s Manager and Art Director, says: “VisitBritain’s online image library is one of the best resources available to the travel and tourism industry. This exhibition highlights just a small percentage of the rich variety of photography that can be used, usually free of charge, by anyone promoting Britain as a destination.”

“We hope that seeing these images – whether in the exhibition, newspapers and magazines, holiday brochures, promotions or ad campaigns – will continue to inspire many more people to take time out to explore our remarkable country.”

Among those exhibiting at Waterloo Gallery is award-winning, Yorkshire-based landscape photographer Joe Cornish, known for his work with the National Trust and respected by many other photographers for his emotive landscapes.

The work of Kent-based David Sellman – whose first photographic job was assisting royal and celebrity snapper, Cecil Beaton – has been admired in coffee-table books, calendars and postcards as well as commissions for Historic Royal Palaces.

The images of talented newcomer, Daniel Bosworth, have landed both him and St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, the front cover of the new holiday brochure, Enjoy England Great Ideas 2006 – the signature shot for English tourism this year.

The exhibition at the Waterloo Gallery, 14 Baylis Road, London Se1 7AA is open from 11am – 6pm and entry is free.
