Vienna’s universities are not merely popular venues for international conventions, but also play a key role in their acquisition.

Thanks to the endeavours of the University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, three conferences with a combined attendance of 3,200 have been secured for July 2007.

As the Vienna Convention Bureau notes, these events will generate 13,000 additional overnights for Vienna’s hotel industry.

In the region of 1,200 scientists from all over Europe will be converging on the University of Economics and Business Administration for three days from July 5, 2007 for the 23^rd Colloquium of the European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS).

Bearing the theme “Beyond Waltz – Dances of Individuals and Organization” the meeting will address the most recent findings in organizational science.

Then from July 15 - 20, 2007 the University of Vienna will be hosting the 13th International Conference on Biological Inorganic Chemistry, attracting some 1,500 delegates from all over the globe.

Finally, approximately 500 attendees are expected at the International Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature at the University of Vienna from July 22 - 26, 2007. This congress was last held in Vienna in 1990.

These three gatherings, with a total attendance of 3,200, will bring about some 13,000 overnights for Vienna.

Christian Mutschlechner, Director of the Vienna Convention Bureau, commented: “Not only have universities been chosen as venues for all three events, but it is remarkable that they are all taking place in July. This is perfect fulfilment of our strategy to secure more meetings in the summer months.”
