Statistics released by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rank Vancouver as North America’s top destination for international associations.

The ranking is based on the number of annual conventions held in the city.

Internationally, Vancouver placed 30th, up from 34th two years ago, with 31 international association meetings held in the city in 2004.

Over the past three years, Vancouver has averaged 21 city-wide meetings with more than 1,000 delegates each. In 2004, the convention industry contributed over $1 billion in economic benefit to the region.

The latest Vancouver statistics reveal an increase of 1.5 per cent in the number of overnight visitors to Greater Vancouver year-to-date (YTD) April 2005 compared to 2004 figures.

The number of passengers at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) through April 2005 shows an increase of 6.9 per cent over YTD 2004 figures. Data also shows that Vancouver’s room demand YTD April 2005 remained strong at 0.7 per cent over 2004 results, with an average daily rate of $117.20.
