Most corporate organisers feel their employers do not understand the value of the events they stage, according to a new survey.

The Event Benchmarking survey was carried out by the Corporate Travel & Meetings Forum and 60 per cent of respondents said their activities were undervalued while 88 per cent felt the UK is still lagging behind the USA when it comes to appreciating the value of in-house event organisers.

The growing demand for increasingly short, focused events was reported by 90 per cent of respondents while 50 per cent say more videoconference and webcasting was being employed. And 69 per cent of corporates are now preferring to pay intermediary agencies on a fixed fee basis rather than the old commission or payment for hours basis.

The majority of organisers expect no change in their budgets in the next 12 months while 20 per cent forecast a reduction. Only 7 per cent expect an increase in spending.
