Union des Foires Internationales (UFI) and the International Association for Exhibition Management (IAEM), the leading worldwide organizations for the exhibition industry, have agreed to full partnership in the organization of the Global Council. The first event takes place in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on 7 December 2001.

The Global Council, administered and supported by UFI and IAEM, provides all associations in the exhibition industry worldwide with a forum for the discussion of issues of common interest and as a means to exchange ideas and information. Originally conceived by Robert Dallmeyer, Chairman of IAEM, this event is now an extension of the existing Global Strategic Alliance between IAEM and UFI that was signed in Hong Kong on 2 November 2000.

According to Dallmeyer "what we have needed for a long time is a a forum where all of the associations of our industry can come together as equals and discuss issues that are of common interest to the entire industry. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with our colleagues at UFI who share our interest in this objective."

Prof. Dr. Manfred Busche, President of UFI, added: "I think this idea from my friend Bob Dallmeyer can help the worldwide exhibition industry to develop a deeper knowledge and a better understanding of our common interest. I am convinced the trade fair and exhibition industry belongs to those branches of the world economy, which will constantly develop and grow. The "Global Council" will help us to reach that goal."
