Tropical storm Allison barreled through Houston, but left the city's tourism industry intact

Greater Houston's top attractions and museums like Space Center Houston, Six Flags Astroworld and Waterworld, Splashtown, Moody Gardens, Houston Museum of Natural Science and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston are all open and operating business as usual.

The city's other area attractions have continued to be open to the public and had minimal damage due to the flooding. The Theater District, which includes resident companies in opera, theater, symphony and ballet all sustained flood damage, and although several performances were cancelled immediately following the storm, all performances are back on schedule. Some performances have temporarily relocated to other theaters, but are maintaining regular schedules.

Houston's Museum District had virtually no flood damage following the storm with the exception of the Contemporary Arts Museum, which remains closed for repairs until July 13, 2001. All other museums in the district are open and museum exhibits have remained on schedule.

``Millions of people come to Houston every year and visit our attractions, museums and theaters and experience the diversity of our great city,'' said Gerard J. ``Jordy'' Tollett, President and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. ``We want everyone to know that tourism in Houston is alive and well and we are ready to welcome you all to Houston.''
